Mission Street - Habitat for Humanity

When approached by Habitat for Humanity Greater San Francisco (GSF) to design a new and affordable residential complex, DIAP was excited to share its expertise and dedication to sustainable design with such a celebrated non-profit organization. Habitat for Humanity’s environmental sensitivity and DIAP’s sustainable development values coincided beautifully. DIAP introduced innovative sustainable solutions for an energy efficient redevelopment of this fully paved existing site. For example, there is a 10 year storm on-site infiltration system, PV roof mounted units, rainwater harvesting, reintroduction of native planting in a natural setting reminiscent of the original riparian forest patterns. Working closely with the Habitat for Humanity development team, DIAP was able to design the Mission Street residential complex with more units than initially expected, while still creating a comfortable living situation within the 3 bedroom / 2 bath units. By fully embracing Habitat for Humanity GSF’s mission to help make living in the Bay Area more attainable for those who work here, DIAP designed a residential complex which made more units available for very deserving local families.
